Amelia Cruizer’s Car Show

October 20th, 2008 by theAddison

We have two big cars shows every year here on Amelia Island. In the Spring we have the Concours d’Elegance which features antique, high-end luxury cars. They have an auction and the cars are displayed down on one of the golf courses in the Plantation. But in October the Amelia Cruizers put on my kind of car show; street rods, some new, some old, but all looking sharp, lined Center Street last Saturday.

The morning started out nicely, this really is a beautiful time of year here in Fernandina Beach. A few clouds rolled through when we were finishing up our breakfast service annd rain threatened but by noon the skies were blue and the afternoon warmed up nicely. We took a breal from the inn to check out the cars and were totally impressed. These car owners put a LOT of work into their cars.

And the car show was just part of a full weekend here on the Island. I performed my first wedding in our courtyard and everything went well. I’ll blog that event once I receive the pictures from the happy bride and groom. On Sunday there was a polital fundraiser at the Green Turtle Tavern in support of Bill White for Publc Defender. A good crowd showed up for live music, free food and free beer. Free stuff is good. We couldn’t stay too long because Maggie Doone was acting like a complete idiot. Something about hot dogs just drives Maggie wild.

We’ve got another couple of elopements coming up in November at the inn as well as the Holiday Cookie Tour on November 22 when you can tour the inns and snack on holiday cookies as you tour (Tickets: $20). But before we can get to November we’ve got to make it through the Florida-Georgia football game weekend. There is always something going on here in Fernandina Beach!
