Every Saturday there is a Farmer’s Market just one block away from the Inn. It is a pretty good market for a town of this size. If you look just behind the sign in this picture you can see Felix on his trike. Felix is a mini-farmer’s market all on his own. Everyday he rides through town selling cookies, peanuts, papaya, cracker jacks and pretty much anything else you can eat, out of the basket on the back of his trike. I even bought a pineapple from him one day.
This morning there were about thirty stalls set up selling fresh baked breads, fresh produce, plants, olives, hot tamales, cheeses (real cheeses, not mild cheddar), all-natural pork and a variety of specialty prepared items like jams, relishes, tapenade and pies.
The weather this time of year is absolutely gorgeous. Sunshine, lower humidity and comfortable temperatures. I walked Maggie down to the harbor this morning and the boats that were put away because of Hanna were being re-launched (Hanna missed us completely, by the way), fishing parties were getting ready to hit the water and there was a Redfish Tournament underway.
There’s always something happening in Fernandina Beach. September 25th through October 1 there is the Amelia Island Film Festival (http://www.ameliaislandfilmfestival.org/) and on September 27th is the Fiesta de Santa Maria. October 3rd through 5th the Amelia Island Book Festival (http://www.bookisland.org/) takes place followed by the Amelia Island Jazz Festival (http://www.ameliaislandjazzfestival.com/) from October 5th through to the 12th. On October 11th is the Fall Decorating Tour of the historic Bed and Breakfast Inns of Amelia Island and wrapping up October is the Annual 8 Flags Car Show (http://www.ameliacruizers.org/) on the 19th and 20th. Like I said, always something going on. See you there!
