For road cyclists who are looking for a fun-for-all experience on Amelia Island, the Endless Summer Watermelon Ride is sure to be the highlight of your stay. The event is organized by the North Florida Bicycle Club each year and provides participants with a day of road cycling fun that typically sees hundreds of riders from across Florida and neighboring states sign up to participate.
The event falls in line with the North Florida Bicycle Club’s greater mission of fostering a community of camaraderie and safe bicycling across Northeast Florida. The organization dates back to the 1970s when it was initiated as a racing club and eventually evolved into a social club as well. Today, it’s one of the largest cycling clubs in the state and is known for the many fun rides, advocacy rides, and charity rides they host.
Cyclists can sign up for their preferred routes as part of the Endless Summer Watermelon Ride online with options to pick and choose between a Century Ride for more experienced athletes as well as a Family Fun Ride that’s suitable for cyclists of all ages. Pre-ride snacks are provided as well as Gatorade, water, and small bites at rest stops along the pre-marked routes. There’s even a post-ride lunch for participants looking to fuel up after a challenge.
This year, the Endless Summer Watermelon Ride will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, and as always, cyclists can purchase custom jerseys ahead of time to commemorate the experience.
