Haunted Locations

If you’re looking for specific places to learn about Amelia Island’s haunted past, there are several to enjoy! From historic forts to Florida’s oldest bar, there are several places to explore. Let’s start with Fort Clinch. Even though this fort didn’t see a battle, many soldiers and others roamed the area during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and beyond.

Fort Clinch

The most famous tale is about a Civil War soldier stationed at the fort who perished before returning to his lover. He is still said to roam the fort, so beware!

Another great location to get a shot at seeing a ghost is the Palace Saloon! Not only is the bar old, but it is also the oldest in Florida! Charlie Beresford, a longtime bartender, is said to haunt the saloon. He was known for creating a bar game during this time at the bar. To win this game, bar patrons had to try and flip a quarter onto the carved mahogany ladies behind the bar, and the coin had to stay. Charlie ended up making some side money from this game! To this day, it is said that people who play this game at the bar can feel a cold hand on their shoulder.
