Amelia Island has an exciting and unique history. Our story starts 4000 years ago when the Timucua Native American tribe was the people of this land. What Is the History of the Museum Itself?

Founded in 1977 as the “Fernandina Historical Museum,” the Amelia Island Museum of History is one of the finest historical museums in Florida. During the early days, 15 trustees began raising funds to find a permanent home for the artifacts collected by William Decker. The collection included thousands of historical documents, artifacts, and books.
